About Longkhum
Longkhum, a legendary Village, popularly known as the “Ao-funemro’ (meaning the vanguard village) as bestowed upon by the Aos during the heading hunting era, is blessed with a picturesque landscape situated in the south west of Mokokchung District. The Ao’s believed that Longkhum is the resting place for the spirit of the dead on their onward journey to paradise.
It is the highest altitude village of the ‘Ao country’ at 6,500 feet and strategically commands a supreme view of the surrounding hills and valleys. Area-wise it is also the largest village and shares boundaries with the Lotha Villages in the West and Sumi Villages in the South.
Longkhum is one of the many favourite tourist destination villages in Nagaland with so much to offer to tourists in the pursuit to explore nature. The village offers several beautiful trekking trails and serene landscapes, a natural aesthetic for photography.
